ZBrush
As further research and experimentation I took part in an extracurricular course detailing the techniques and processes of Zbrush. ZBrush is a software that allows one to 3D model any design of their choice. From this it is possible to create physical 3D maquettes, it also allows the designer to fine tune the details of the sculpt from the primary forms to the texture of the skin or fur. As discussed on the Digital Implications page it is clear that the industry is progressing and becoming more and more technology based, therefore understanding the fundamentals of the program will allow further in depth exploration into that area of the industry. The photographs below show the process that has been learnt so far in the course, unfortunately colouration has not begun on this design, as we are yet to be taught this process. There are many tutorials available online that provide information concerning the potential projects that can be produced through this modelling software. This will prove useful to create designs and makeups for further projects in order to visualise the results in a high level of detail. Learning this skill will prove invaluable for future project as one will be able to create a 3D design that can be shown to others, printed and altered digitally.
Iguana CreationInitially one starts with a ball of 'clay' that can be built upon by moving the mass into the desired shape. It is crucial to get the basic structure of the creature correct before adding any kind of detail. If the basic structure is not correct the entire project will result in a poor finish that does not look realistic. This stage may take time to fine tune the shape to produce a realistic result. | Iguana CreationFor this experimentation I will create an Iguana as it has a very interesting skin texture that would be very exciting to create as it will open up a range of techniques in order to produce the result. In this photograph eyes are being added to the design. | Iguana CreationAdding the detail is done once the shape of the sculpt has been finalised. This included pores, skin texture, any hair involved all the minute details that combined create the more realistic results within the program. |

Iguana CreationHere is the Iguana at its current stage in the process. Initial detail has begun to be added to the structure. Wrinkles in the skin, the spiked areas on the Iguana and general detail that is seen on the reference picture. It is important to keep reference close by so that the result looks genuine. | Demon CreationWithin the initial lesson I created a demon structure. This was quite interesting as it allowed me to see that it is possible to create makeup designs on this program by inserting a 3D model of the actor and building upon this creating the character. |
